Losing a tooth can be depressing for you or your loved ones, especially when teeth are lost in an accident or without gradual decay. Dental implants are a permanent and appealing solution to replace missing or extracted teeth. It is a support given to an artificial tooth placed with the help of a screw inserted inside the bone. They are better than other alternatives like bridges because no additional teeth need to be altered to place the new tooth. Implants look very natural and last for a long duration if taken care of properly.

The entire implant process needs a few months for its completion. The first part of the process is to install the implant itself, where a screw is placed into a person’s jaw bone. An incision is made in the gum so that the implant can be inserted. Multiple implants can be placed at once if necessary. After the implants are placed, the gums are sutured. Implanting teeth are much comfortable as compared to extracting a tooth which can be extremely painful.

The implant must be allowed about 3-6 months to heal, and during this time, the jaw bone will form around the implant in a process called osseointegration. During this procedure, materials made of titanium connect with the bone. During this healing time, you can have temporary crowns installed so that you can eat and speak normally and maintain a proper aesthetic appearance for your smile.

After the implant has healed, it is time to place an abutment on the implant. The abutment serves as the base for your new tooth. After its placement, an impression of the abutment is taken and is used to create your permanent restoration. Some offices have an onsite lab to create the crown, but others will have to send it to an outside lab.

After completion of the restoration, you can return to our office for a member of our highly trained and qualified staff to attach the restoration permanently. Recovery of an implant depends on the physical and oral health of a person. However, they are a safe treatment and go a long way with routine follow-ups with our team. Cleaning of implants is also similar to cleaning natural teeth but might need advice from our dental experts. Implants are to be well protected with a mouth guard as they can be damaged if teeth get hit by something during an accident or while playing sports. In case the implant is damaged, we would need to replace it with a new one if repairing it is not possible.

Our team of experts at Almond Dental will provide all the necessary treatments for a comfortable dental implant and will also guide you on how to take adequate care of the implant for a long-lasting result.

Your smile will look just like it used to, and after a short period of getting used to the implant, it will feel just like one of your teeth.
