Common Reasons Why You Might Need Emergency Dentistry

It can be hard for a lot of people to be able to tell when a dental problem can wait and when it needs to be addressed immediately. If it needs emergency dentistry or not. Something that seems minor can quickly turn into something major if it’s not treated as fast at possible. Here are a few examples of dental emergencies.

Do you need Emergency Dentistry?

A Loose Tooth

A loose or wiggling tooth is normal for a child. It’s anything but for an adult. If you have a loose tooth, that could mean you’ve experienced some sort of injury to the tooth. Or, it could be a sign of an infection. If you have a loose tooth as well as a toothache, an infection due to gum disease may be the reason. Treatment will be needed in order to keep that infection from spreading.

Bleeding Gums

Bleeding of the gums is never normal. If there is blood when you floss or brush, you need to get to the dentist – especially if you notice excessive blood, and your gums are aching. This could mean you have severe gum disease that needs to be treated as soon as possible. Prompt action could be the difference between successfully addressing the problem or needing to have some teeth pulled.

Swelling of the Jaw

This can be a symptom of a severe infection, such as a salivary gland infection. If you have a swollen jaw as well as symptoms such as fever and difficulty swallowing, get to an emergency dentist right away.
