WHO CAN BENEFIT BY RECEIVING DENTAL IMPLANT TOOTH REPLACEMENT AND WHY?
There are many reasons one can benefit from implant dentistry. Our teeth are meant to touch their neighboring teeth on either side, as well as above/below to achieve harmony in occlusion. When this balance is disturbed, teeth begin to shift, lean and erupt into the new space left behind following tooth loss.
There are instances where all teeth are present but visually displeasing to a person. Implant dentistry can be a permanent solution to improving the position and appearance of one’s smile.
Implant placement can also restore bone and strength to greatly enhance and solidify and stabilize the fit of removable dental appliances, allowing for increased self confidence and joy in eating. For dental implants in Minnesota
DOES IT HURT?
Local anesthetic/Lidocaine numbing agent is necessary for oral surgery.
You will not experience pain. Our exceptional team of care-givers will make your comfort the highest priority. Following the procedure, you will likely have sutures and can expect mild to no swelling and slight to no tenderness.
CAN I BE SEDATED TO SLEEP DURING THE PLACEMENT OF IMPLANT DENTISTRY?
Most people experience a level of dental anxiety. We believe we can provide adequate comfort with our chair side manner along with local anesthetic (numbing) for all our patient clients.
We do offer Nitrous Oxide and Oxygen Sedation for pain and anxiety relief for those who would like “a little more”. This is an easy and fast -acting option to be used with local anesthetic if one wishes, with no after effects.
We even have an option for IV Sedation for our patients who wish to sleep throughout the procedure, resulting in no memory of the appointment.
At your complimentary Implant Consultation appointment, our doctor can help you decide which method will best meet your needs.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE?
Typically phase I (implant placement and healing) will take 8-10 weeks to integrate (solidify) in surrounding bone. An x-ray Is taken after this healing period to ensure proper acceptance.
Once established, phase II (insertion of implant abutment and impression) is performed. This impression is forwarded to our highly experienced professional dental lab, where your Zirconia crown is custom made specifically for you. Creation of this unique crown or bridge takes approximately 7-10 business days.
Phase III (insertion of crown or bridge) is placed upon the implant abutment. The shade, shape, bite and contacts are evaluated and confirmed and then permanently inserted.
WHAT WILL IT LOOK AND FEEL LIKE DURING THE PROCESS?
During the healing period, you will have the same space and appearance as before implant placement. You may initially experience minimal to slight tenderness or slight swelling, although this is rare.
A group of prescriptions will allow for your comfortable, quick and easy healing following the placement procedure.
HOW DO I CARE FOR MY IMPLANT DURING HEALING AND BEYOND?
Following the placement procedure, there is very little maintenance for the implant site. Please continue a normal routine of gentle but thorough daily brushing and flossing. Warm salt water rinses are therapeutic and healing, as well. Maintaining a healthy supportive diet including Vitamin D3 (5,000 iu daily), Vitamin C and Vitamin K all enhance the healing process. Therefore, we advise following a healthy and healing diet to include fruits, vegetables and healthy fats.
Once the implant abutment and crown or bridge restoration is placed, we recommend thorough but gentle flossing around the implants and the addition of a gentle water pik program with a special pik pocket or implant tip.
If the implants are replacing missing teeth in the front of your smile, a temporary solution is offered. This temporary fix is often an improvement to your smile’s appearance. It will look and feel comfortable and natural. Your health care professional will review proper and specialized homecare.
WHAT ARE THE IMPLANTS, ABUTMENTS AND CROWNS MADE OF?
Our doctor’s choice of implant material is titanium. This material has been used in implant restoration since 1974 and is continuously improving by design, strength and longevity.
Our doctor’s choice of crown material is Zirconia. It is the ideal combination of strength and beauty.
